bepaalde details weergeven. Voor de rest een aanbevelenswaardig boek
voor iedere Jiu-Jitsuka
Small-Circle Jujitsu is the complete presentation of the system
developed by Wally Jay. Bringing together elements from different
arts, Jay s broad-based yet focused and effective system
incorporates theories, principles and techniques essential to the
development of every martial artist, whether a novice or a seasoned
veteran. In this definitive instructional text, Jay covers the
history of small-circle jujitsu; techniques for warm-ups, falling
and resuscitation; details on weaknesses of the human body; locking
techniques for wrists, fingers, arms and legs; throwing and choking
techniques; and self-defense against strikes, chokes, body grabs and
wrist grabs. Jay's system of small-circle jujitsu, based on 50 years
of training and teaching experience, works on the premise summarized
in his own words: It s not how much you can hurt a person in an
altercation but how little you can hurt a person and still control
him.
In this new volume to his discourse of jujitsu
defence tactics and techniques, the award-winning instructor
analyses and charts the human body's multitude of nerve and pressure
points - and then presents a wide variety of submission techniques
that use pain induction to bring an attacker under your control
without injury. The text covers the secret behind the art of jujitsu,
ki, mushin and self-defence, pain compliance, pressure-point and
balance-point techniques, and much more. A fascinating study of the
human body as both a weapon and target, complete with extensive
photo sequences, highly detailed technique breakdowns, and
scientifically compiled nerve- and pressure-point charts, this book
is an excellent reference and learning resource.
Vital Point Strikes is a guide to pressure point
striking for the average martial artist. Sang H. Kim demystifies the
lore of vital point striking and shows you realistic applications of
vital point strikes for self-defense and combat sports. For those
new to the concept of vital points, he begins by examining the
Eastern theory of acupoints, meridians and ki (qi) and the Western
scientific concepts of the nervous and circulatory systems, pain
threshold and pain tolerance, and the relationship between pain and
fear. This synthesis of accepted Eastern and Western theories helps
the reader understand what makes vital point striking work and why
it can be not only useful in fighting, but deadly. Based on this
introduction, you ll learn about 202 vital points for use in
fighting including the name, point number, location, involved nerves
and blood vessels, applicable techniques, sample applications, and
potential results for each point. The points are illustrated in
detail on an anatomically correct human model, with English,
Chinese, and Korean names as well as point numbers for easy
reference. In addition to identifying the vital points, Sang H. Kim
gives you detailed information about the type of techniques that
work for vital point striking including a discussion of fighting
zones and ranges, plexus strikes, stance and footwork, bodily
weapons, striking directions and angles and dozens of applications
for common empty hand, grappling, groundfighting, knife and gun
attacks. Based on over thirty years experience in the martial arts
and in-depth research, Sang H. Kim has created one of the most
complete books available on the art and science of vital point
striking.
Kyuzo Mifune (1883-1965) began Judo as a child, and
in 1920 was awarded the highest possible rank of 10th dan - the only
man ever to reach this height. Called the god of judo , he was so
famous that '10th-Dan' replaced his name! Legend has it that in his
sixty years of practice he never lost a match and was never thrown.
This book is a totally revised edition. The original was published
in 1960, and played a big role in founding the International Judo
Association, and in helping judo to become an Olympic sport in 1964.
Shortly before his death Mifune revised his work. This new edition
includes the revisions as well as corrections.
The author was a 3-times Olympic Judo champion
in his youth, and became the chief instructor of Kodokan - the
official Judo headquarters. This book is the successor to the
perennial bestseller Kodokan Judo , by the founder Jigoro Kano, and
contains full descriptions of all 67 throws, with variations and
practice guides. In addition, the author details the origins of some
techniques using old and rare photos of Kano in action. Destined to
be a classic and a must for all judo practitioners.
gevorderde judoka blijven inspireren.

During the last decade, the martial arts world has
looked to innovative mixed martial arts competitions such as the
Ultimate Fighting Championship to determine which fighting style is
the best. These contests have repeatedly shown the grappling style
of martial arts, headed by Brazilian jiu-jitsu, to dominate. The
Brazilian jiu-jitsu style stems from the premise, garnered from
analysis of actual street fights, that the outcome of any fight is
decided on the ground. While most martial arts deal only with the
initial punching and kicking stages of combat, Brazilian jiu-jitsu
concentrates on ground combat. This guide shows how to use Brazilian
jiu-jitsu to increase combat effectiveness. Photographs and
step-by-step instructions show how to master the techniques used in
this exciting new form of combat.
With martial arts champions such as Ken Shamrock and
Tito Ortiz appearing on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, giving
training tips in Muscle & Fitness and Men's Journal , and conducting
interviews on Howard Stern's radio show, millions of people are
turning to the martial arts for sport, a means of self-defense, and
a form of exercise. Many of these newcomers to the martial arts
never stepped foot into a martial arts training facility, and have
no plans of ever doing so. They want to learn to defend themselves
without traveling to a gym or paying steep monthly dues. Some
purchase martial arts guidebooks so they can prepare themselves both
mentally and physically to enter a dojo a year or two down the road.
Martial Arts Unleashed: Jiu-jitsu offers readers: a detailed history
and evolution of the discipline; a description of the various
theories and strategies behind training and competing; a breakdown
of the gear and training space needed to get started; a description
of warm-up routines, footwork, and stances; detailed instruction
accompanied by step-by-step photographs that divulge everything from
the basic kicks, punches, and blocks to the most advanced techniques;
instruction on how to combine various techniques into sophisticated
combinations; sample workouts for all levels of training; weight
lifting programs to improve strength; cardiovascular workouts to
improve stamina; sample diets to improve overall health; and,
resources that show readers where to ply their trade and learn even
more. For those desiring to learn the martial arts for self-defense
rather than sport, the book features a section on those techniques
best suited for practical application. For the more advanced
students, this book describes how to blend this particular
discipline with other styles, utilize certain techniques to defeat
practitioners of other disciplines, and prepare for a variety of
competitions.

today. A thorough grounding in the fundamentals dealt with here
will enable you to disarm and control any assailant.

When you think of a cane, do you think of an elderly person walking
down the street, using the "stick" as a crutch? When author Octavio
Ramos Jr. sees a cane, he sees a hard-hitting self-defense weapon
with a crook and horn capable of incapacitating any opponent within
a matter of seconds. This book teaches the art of one of the most
unexpected self-defense tools ever created. Carried anywhere--into
almost any situation--the cane rarely attracts undue attention...until
you need it to.
From the Publisher
Here's what Master Ron Geoffrion, 6th dan (President and Chairman of
the World Tae Kwon Do Association, New Mexico Schools) says of
Raising Cane: "An unfortunate aspect of our society is that the
criminal element most often attacks individuals that are perceived
as weak (i.e., women, children, the aged, and the disabled). The
techniques explained in this book by Mr. Ramos would not only be
effective but, in some cases, devastating and deadly. An elderly
person or someone who is resigned to carrying a cane for a physical
impairment could take this book, practice the exercises Mr. Ramos
suggests, train and condition as specified in Section 5, and become
quite capable of defending themselves from assault."
All-round Budo 'The Yoseikan method' is een boek
All-round Budo 'The Yoseikan method' is toegankelijk voor alle
diverse disciplines zoals o.a.
